High Places - ‘On Giving Up’
High Places is a collaboration between a boy who listened to hardcore through his youth and a girl who, in turn, studied basoon performance. I got into these towards the back end of last year which I see as perfect timing near enough, seeing as I got my hands on their new record the other day.
It’s a new direction, straying away from the almost dream pop sound of their 2008 debut. This one reminded me of Dirty Projectors on more than one occasion. And Dexter, but that’s just the ‘tonight is going to be the night’ line. That’s two things to love about it right there. I’m just not too sure about the whole LP as yet so I’ll wait for it to click.
