The Album Leaf - ‘Blank Pages’
Fans of Jimmy LaValle, like me, have been patiently waiting for another ‘In a Safe Place’ for a good while now, a record which sits in good company on my mental list of those as close to perfect as I’ve yet to hear. The fifth LP from his Album Leaf project is due next month, entitled ‘A Chorus Of Storytellers’, which could be about to spell the end of the six year wait for some perhaps.
This is the first record since the project began in 1998 where the recording has featured a full band accompaniment. In addition, there’s a tonne more vocals, leading you to question at this point: does it bode well? The answer should become clear after the first few listens (it’s a massive yes from me). Altogether, it’s a tried and tested method of making beautiful ambient/post-rock (inb4 disappointment over a lack of progression) which is what makes The Album Leaf one of those superb transition artists when exploring new genres. The result is an outstanding record.
