Cymbals Eat Guitars - ‘Some Trees (Merritt Moon)’
Along with having the best band name I’ve heard in a while, the New York based four piece also have that DIY ethic which is all too rarely seen in the industry today. Debut record ‘Why There Are Mountains’ was first released independently by the band, earning the ‘Best New Music’ stamp from Pitchfork along the process.

It’s certainly in no way, shape or form undeserved, might I add. It must be said, Cymbals aren’t attempting to reinvent the indie rock wheel - the likes of Built To Spill and Pavement already did just that in the 90s, shades of which can be seen throughout the LP. The feedback during the close of lead single ‘…And The Hazy Sea’ paves the way for the above track to descend into a jangling guitar riff, held together with a rush of drum tapping and backed by the raw vocals of Joe D’Agostino.
Now under the watchful eye of Kyle Johnson (Modest Mouse), the album is set for a full release on October 26th via Memphis Industries. Support the artist, ta.
